A River Village's Older Window Stock
Mahomet's original townsite dates to 1832, making it the first community platted in what is now Champaign County, and window openings in its oldest homes near the Sangamon reflect that early-to-mid-1800s construction period. The village incorporated in 1872, and its historic core has seen more than one round of window replacement since.
Windows Facing River Humidity
Homes closer to the Sangamon's headwaters deal with higher ambient ground moisture, which can affect wood window frames and sills more than it would in drier parts of the county. Window replacement near Mahomet's river frontage should account for that added moisture exposure.
