A Village Rebuilt on New Ground in 1870
St. Joseph's current site dates from its 1870 relocation, a mile and a half north of the original 1849 riverside settlement, ahead of the village's formal 1881 organization. Window openings in the village's oldest surviving homes reflect construction from shortly after that move forward, not from the original settlement.
Replacing Sash in a Century-and-a-Half-Old Core
Homes in St. Joseph's oldest blocks have likely gone through more than one round of window replacement since the 1870s, and original openings from that era can be smaller or differently proportioned than today's standard sizes. That's worth checking before ordering replacement units.
